Hampton Roads breweries will be participating in the Battle of the Beers, an event that will benefit local Hampton Roads-based charities. During the event, ticket holders will receive two samples of beer in two different categories from each brewery. Tasters will then vote on their favorite beer from each category to help determine the winners of the battles. Submitted beers will also be judged by professional judges in a blind taste test to help determine winners. Ticket holders will receive food catered by Tapped Gastropub, souvenir event glasses, live music from the Brandon Bower Band and Nature’s Child, cornhole games, raffle prizes, professional photography and much more.

2018 Date of Battle of the Beers: September 8th

Venue: Hunt Club Farm

Time: 1 pm – 6 pm

Participating in the 3rd Annual Beach Ambassadors Battle of the Beers will be O?Connor, Smartmouth, and Bold Mariner brewing companies from Norfolk; Back Bay, Pleasure House, Reaver Beach, Wasserhund, Commonwealth and Young Veterans brewing companies from Virginia Beach; Big Ugly brewing company from Chesapeake; St. George brewing company from Hampton; AleWerks brewing company from Williamsburg; and Brass Cannon brewing company from Toano. New this year, the competition will also welcome two breweries from outside Hampton Roads: Devil’s Backbone brewing company from Lexington and Starr Hill brewing company from Charlottesville. Brewers are encouraged to bring whatever recipe, previously released to the public or not, they think will win the battle in each category.

The event will be hosted by Beach Ambassadors, a non-profit organization led by Hampton Roads men and women with the ultimate goal of supporting local, Hampton Roads-based charitable organizations through social and sporting events. The event this year will be raising money for Norfolk-based St. Mary?s Home. St. Mary?s Home is a special place full of love and laughter, where children and young adults with severe disabilities from all across Virginia live, play, go to school and receive complex, professional, around-the-clock care in a nurturing, comfortable environment. Seventy-five percent of the proceeds will go directly to St. Mary?s Home. The winning breweries from each category will get to choose a charity of their choice for the remaining twenty-five percent of the proceeds.

Last year?s Battle of the Beers event raised nearly $7,500 for St. Mary’s Home and $2,500 for the Breast Cancer Foundation and Child Development Resources charitable organizations. O’Connor brewing company won in the IPA category, donating its winnings to the Breast Cancer Foundation. AleWerks brewing company won in the Seasonal category, donating its winnings to Child Development Resources. Young Veterans brewing company won the People’s Choice category.
