Are you heading to Virginia Beach? Then don’t forget you golf clubs. Virginia Beach National is a premier golf course that was designed by Pete Dye and Curtis Strange. It opened originally in May 1999 under the Tournament Players Club, and was recently bought and then leased by the City of Virginia Beach. This has left a “tournament style” golf course at a fraction of the cost. The fairways, greens and overall course are in immaculate condition. It has a challenging layout with many options depending on which tees you decide to play. There are six different tee boxes allowing all levels to enjoy this great course.

This is a Par 72 course and has left the Championship tees in place as a challenge to anyone wanting to give it a chance. The course rating is a 75.8 with a slope rating of 142 Virginia Beach National’s weekday, non-resident; rates are $64 or $74 on the weekend. Virginia Beach residents will pay $54 or $64, with other discounts for military, seniors, juniors and players whose TPC memberships haven’t expired. This course came highly recommended, and was found to be just as much fun as it is challenging.

Along with this, next door is the First Tee Program of Hampton Roads that teaches golf to kids in a year round. It shows them what the challenges and rewards are that can be met in the game of golf. It is a nine-hole course, with a driving range, a putting green, a short-game practice area and Learning Center/Clubhouse where the kids get their in classroom instruction. As my kids have taken lessons here, the staff is very helpful no matter of the kids skill level. They have clubs for them to rent and use so they can improve their game, as well as classes and camps that are available to ages 5-17.
