The clock is ticking down for the 47th Annual East Coast Surfing Championship. The fun is set to begin on Thursday August 27. 2009 and continue thru Sunday August 30, 2009. All the action occurs at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront 2nd -9th Streets.
The East Coast Surfing Championship is the oldest running surfing competition in North America and the second oldest continuously running surfing contest in the world. This competition has been held annually on the Virginia Beach Oceanfront since 1963. It is a competition that brings out all those who wish to “ride the curl” and compete for their part in over 40,000 in cash and prizes, surfing titles, and to indulge their sheer love of surfing.
The ECSC is a major event for amateurs and professionals alike. National media outlets such as ESPN, USA, and MTV2 have all had coverage of this event over the years and it is not difficult to understand why. It is an exciting event that takes place on the beautiful Virginia Beach oceanfront that already attracts more than 2.4 million tourists a year. Surfers and beach lovers from all over the world find there a way to the ECSC. More than 100 of the world best surfers and an estimated 300 amateur surfers make their way to Virginia Beach Ocean front to compete. It is defiantly a world-class event.
Don’t be fooled by the title though, The East Coast Surfing Championship has more than just surfing. Other people take part in competitions like skimboarding, volleyball, an oceanfront 5k run, extreme skateboarding and of course the wildly popular swimsuit competition. While you spend your days with you eyes on the waves keep your ears toward the Hardees Thickburger stage for all the free live music that will be playing onstage.
