When coming to the Virginia Beach boardwalk, visiting the King Neptune statue is something you will never miss. This mighty statue can be seen from a mile away! Walking up to King Neptune for the first time is extraordinary, and is an experience you won’t forget.
At first glance at the King, you will notice the godly strength of his whole body. Then you will notice the detailed muscles in both of his arms. His left hand with a tight grip on the shell of a huge loggerhead turtle. On the other is a large triton, which makes the statue seem larger than life.
The entire statue is about 34 feet high!
After scoping out the King, you will notice all of the other friends that surround him. All along the bottom of the statue are starfish, fish, and even two dolphins that are placed behind him. The actual measurements of the loggerhead turtle in Neptune’s grip are 11 feet long. The two dolphins behind him measure out to be 17 feet and 15 feet long. The King Neptune statue sure does have a lot of story behind him.

History of The King Neptune Statue: Where Did It All Begin?
The King Neptune Statue production began in 2003 for the annual Neptune Festival. The director of the Contemporary Arts Center of Virginia Beach contacted Paul DiPasquale in hopes that DiPasquale would submit a design of a statue. Mr. DiPasquale is a Richmond, Virginia resident who has a great eye for design. When he submitted his King Neptune design, the director of the Contemporary Arts Center of Virginia Beach wanted the design of King Neptune to be started right away! Paul DiPasquale designed a magnificent statue blueprint. What is equally important as designing it, is to find an amazing sculpting artist who can bring the King Neptune statue to life. The best person to do the job was Zhang Cong, who said that the Virginia Beach statue is the best work he has ever done. We agree!
This statue took a lot of hard work, dedication, and love for this piece of art! VA Beach locals and tourists alike have a great appreciation for the creation of the King Neptune Statue.
