Virginia Beach is packed with many family friendly things to do. There are festivals to attend, statues to see, and museums to be mesmerized in. But, one of the most popular family friendly Virginia Beach attractions is JT’s Grommet Island Park.

JT’s Grommet Island Park is truly unlike any other play area in Virginia Beach and any other play area in the whole country!

Why?

It’s because this playground at the beach is 100% handicap accessible, making it for everyBODY (like the sign will tell you)! JT’s Grommet Island Park is sponsored by Amerigroup Foundation, and was brought to fruition by the family Josh Thompson. The Thompson family dreamed of visiting the beach, but found it to be more of a hassle than pleasure because their son’s handicap needs. Then the idea of Grommet Island Park blossomed. A full handicap accessible park came to Virginia Beach! And, anyone can enjoy this playground, handicapped or not. Again, this park is for everyBODY.

When visiting Grommet Island in Virginia Beach, you will notice palm trees on the beach, and everything you need to have an enjoyable experience with your little ones in the sand. Pushing strollers and/or wheelchairs on this section of the beach is a breeze! This is an easy and beautiful way to take a trip to the beach.

You’ll find this unique beach park and playground is located at 2nd Street at the Virginia Beach Boardwalk.

This area of the Oceanfront is very close to Rudee Inlet. You will be able to see Rudee Inlet and the Jetty from this beach park. It is really cool to watch boats come and go out of the jetty! That’s a fun bonus of visiting this area of the Va Beach Boardwalk.
